According to UEFA’s latest financial report for the 2024/25 season, Chelsea in London has been officially recognized as the club in English football that has made the most money. The Blues’ financial performance set a new negative benchmark for the Premier League, second only to Barcelona’s crisis during the pandemic in the European rankings.
In the 2024/25 season, Chelsea became the club in English football with the most losses, according to the UEFA financial report. The Blues’ losses added up to €407 million (£342 million) before taxes. The NYT reported this.
This is also the second worst result in the history of European club football. Only Barcelona’s losses in the 2020/2021 season were worse. At that time, the Catalans had losses of €555 million.
Someone who knows a thing or two about Chelsea’s finances said that these losses have to do with accounting write-offs, especially the depreciation of players and other assets’ value. They also took into account one-off expenses, including a €31 million fine from UEFA for breaking financial rules.
Lyon, Tottenham, Marseille, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Strasbourg, Ajax, and Juventus also made the list of the most loss-making clubs at the end of the 2024/25 season.
