At the MWC 2026 exhibition, Samsung showed off a working prototype of the Mobile Slidable sliding smartphone. This device is different from the foldable models of the Fold series because it increases the screen size from 5.1 to 6.7 inches thanks to a sliding mechanism, with no crease on the display. When you extend it, the aspect ratio changes from 16:9 to an ultra-long 22:9. Even though the demonstration was impressive, the technology is still in the concept stage, and Samsung hasn’t announced a specific release date for the mass-produced version of the “stretchable” gadget.
At MWC 2026, Samsung unveiled an unusual prototype of a “stretching” smartphone. The device, called Mobile Slidable, shows a different way to make the display bigger without using a folding mechanism, Android Authority writes.
When folded, the Samsung display has a diagonal of 5.1 inches with an aspect ratio of 16:9. When you pull the top of the case, the hidden part of the OLED panel slides out, and the screen increases to 6.7 inches with a more elongated 22:9 format.
It doesn’t crease like other foldable phones, so the screen surface stays totally flat. And when you flip it over, the screen becomes wider, perfect for watching videos or using a few apps at once.
Right now, the Mobile Slidable is still a prototype, just for show. Samsung has already shown similar concepts for sliding and rollable displays in previous years, but none of these technologies have yet made it into mass-produced smartphones. But these developments do show what mobile devices might look like in future.
