The world’s first Pokémon-themed airport is set to open on Japan’s Noto Peninsula. It’s called the Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport. The domestic hub, which connects the region to Tokyo, has undergone a major themed makeover: all four floors will feature Pokémon decorations, a Pikachu statue on an airplane, a large-scale mural, and a themed menu in the restaurant. Euronews is supporting an initiative that provides psychological support and comfort to local children following the devastating 2024 earthquake. There’s also going to be a special tourist bus running between the airport and Kanazawa, and the themed design will be there for a limited time—until September 30, 2029.
TimeOut says that this summer, the world’s first Pokémon-themed airport is going to open in Japan. As the article points out, there are a lot of impressive airports around, but most of them aren’t exactly creative when it comes to design.
“But this definitely doesn’t apply to Noto Satoyama Airport.
It’ll soon be renamed the Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport, and the hub itself—which only serves domestic flights to and from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport—has undergone a huge transformation. And this transformation is in the Pokémon style,” the authors emphasize.
On July 7, the airport’s new design will be officially unveiled, and visitors can expect themed decorations and illustrations featuring Pokémon characters on all four floors of the building.
There’s going to be a statue of Pikachu sitting on an airplane in the atrium, and on the first floor, there’ll be a big mural dedicated to the rich nature of the Noto Peninsula.
The airport’s columns have been decked out with characters from the Pokémon universe. On the second floor, the characters will be popping up on info signs and walls, where they’re shown doing their “airport thing.”
In short, for Pokémon fans, this is a true paradise. Even if you’re not familiar with the difference between Ash Ketchum and Alakazam, you’ll probably still like the new design. That’s basically the whole idea behind the project,” the article says.
The idea to create a themed airport came about after a huge 7.6-magnitude earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in 2024, which took hundreds of lives. Euronews says that the organizers tried to bring some joy to children affected by the disaster with vibrant decor, playful details, and a touch of nostalgia.
“Pokémon” will be featured in the interior, and the menu will also be themed.
The An-non Restaurant will serve Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks, and the Serendipity gift shop will offer themed merchandise—T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and even seat belts.
On weekends and during the summer, there’s a special tourist bus that runs between the airport and Kanazawa.
There’s just one catch: the themed decor will only be around for a limited time. But there’s still plenty of time—the airport will stay in Pokémon style until September 30, 2029.
