Prado on a budget: Toyota’s new SUV, the Frame, was seen being tested

The popular Toyota Fortuner frame SUV is getting ready for a big update. The third generation of the model, often referred to as a budget alternative to the Land Cruiser Prado, was spotted during road tests in Thailand. The official presentation is expected in the second half of 2026.

The new 2027 Toyota Fortuner was seen on the road for the first time. The affordable frame SUV will change both how it looks on the outside and how it looks on the inside. The third-generation Toyota Fortuner SUV is being tested in Thailand, where it is made. The Car Expert website says it will be shown sometime in the second half of this year.

The Toyota Fortuner will be redesigned after its sibling, the Hilux pickup. The test car is camouflaged, but it’s clear that it has the same front end as its sibling. It has a frameless radiator grille and slanted LED headlights. The taillights are narrow. We can’t see inside the 2027 Toyota Fortuner, but we know it will have a digital instrument panel and a large 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system, similar to the one in the Hilux. As before, the model will be available in 5- and 7-seat versions.

The new Toyota Fortuner will keep the 2.7-liter 163 hp gasoline four-cylinder and 2.8-liter 204 hp turbodiesel, but the 4.0-liter V6 is currently in question.

The SUV will have a 6-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive with a reduction gear. The Toyota Fortuner SUV will continue to be a budget-friendly option, costing much less than the comparable Land Cruiser Prado.
