Ford has found an original way to lower the starting price of its Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. Starting with the 2026 model, the front trunk (frunk) is no longer included in the base model and is now an additional cost.
The frunk of the Mustang Mach-E has become an optional feature. It is offered to buyers for an additional $495. Ford has found an original way to reduce the price of the electric Mustang Mach-E. According to the Carscoops website, the crossover’s trunk has been made an option.

This change was noticed in the configurator for the 2026 model year of the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the North American market. In the US, the price of the model has dropped by about $1,000: it now starts at $37,795. However, the equipment has become somewhat poorer. The Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover is well known for having two trunks.

The 81-liter front compartment, known as the frunk, is now an option. Ford explained that, according to statistics, owners rarely use it and that installing it in the front of the car significantly increases the cost. Additionally, the base version of the electric car no longer has pockets on the front seatbacks. In the top-of-the-line, 480-horsepower Rally version, graphics on the body and a spoiler on the roof are optional. However, all 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-Es now have small rear door handles instead of buttons only.
