Manchester City could lose 40 points, and that’s not the limit. Arsenal is waiting for a “gift” in the title race

The English champions could face the most severe penalties in their history. Financial expert Kieran Maguire has revealed the possible punishment for breaking financial fair play rules over a nine-year period (2009–2018).

Expert Kieran Maguire explained what punishment Manchester City could receive for breaking financial fair play rules from 2009 to 2018, according to football.london.

Maguire says that the “citizens” could lose 40 to 60 points from the league table if they are found guilty.

“The Premier League cannot relegate Manchester City to the first or second division because that is an EFL decision, and the EFL has not brought any charges against City. Therefore, it must be a points deduction. We’ve already had Everton and Nottingham Forest, who had six and four points taken away for one violation in three years. The charges against City cover a nine-year period, so they are much more significant.

We don’t know the exact numbers, but they’re probably quite high. I think we need to add a zero to what we saw with Nottingham and Everton, so the deduction will be somewhere between 40 and 60 points,” Maguire said.

Manchester City is in second place in the Premier League. They are competing with Arsenal for first place. The Citizens have 56 points, while Arsenal has 61. Also, Pep Guardiola’s team has a game in hand.

Manchester City will play Leeds in the 28th round of the Premier League on Saturday, February 28. The match will be away, and it will be played at Elland Road. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Kyiv time.
