It’s a disgrace to give the FIFA Peace Award to Trump: Fonseca isn’t too happy about the US hosting the 2026 World Cup

The former Shakhtar coach and current Milan coach, Paulo Fonseca, gave an amazing interview. The Portuguese expert, known for being outspoken, was really bothered by FIFA’s actions and US President Donald Trump’s policies before the upcoming World Cup.

Fonseca had already spoken out against the US military capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and voiced support for Palestine in its conflict with Israel. He talked about this in an interview with L’Équipe.

“If European teams don’t want to play in the next World Cup, which is going to be in the US, what should we do?” I’m not sure. To be honest, those of us who love football would prefer the World Cup to be held elsewhere. Not in the US, not right now.

The US president’s approach is to look the other way and focus on his own economic interests, while neglecting the needs of the poorest and weakest. The US president doesn’t think about people. He’s all about the money.

I’m not sure if protesting through football is the best approach, but there are things that just aren’t okay to me.

The FIFA Peace Award for Trump? Can you imagine what I was thinking when I saw that? What a bummer. It’s really unfortunate. Football doesn’t deserve this. “It’s a disgrace,” said Fonseca.

The 2026 World Cup is going to be in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
