U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio officially announced the end of the military operation against Iran, “Epic Fury,” saying that its goals had been met. The U.S. is now focusing on the next phase—Project “Freedom.” Trump’s plan is to create a “protective bubble” in the Strait of Hormuz to make sure merchant ships can pass through safely. Rubio made it clear that Washington won’t let Iran normalize the practice of laying mines in the waters and blocking this strategic sea lane.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Operation “Epic Fury” against Iran has come to an end. He announced this during a speech at the White House.
He says that Trump told Congress the operation was finished.
“The operation is complete. The president let Congress know that Operation ‘Epic Fury’ has wrapped up for now. We’ve hit the goals of this operation,” Rubio said.
At the same time, he added that the U.S. is now moving on to Project “Freedom.” This is about the White House’s plan to make sure ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz without any problems, which he had already talked about.
“We’re currently working on Operation Freedom. We’re working on that right now. We’ll have to wait and see where this goes,” Rubio said.
The Secretary of State described the “Freedom” project as a “protective bubble” and a “first step” toward fully opening the Strait of Hormuz.
“The Strait of Hormuz isn’t Iranian territory, so they shouldn’t be blocking it. This situation can’t be considered normal,” the U.S. Secretary of State stated.
Rubio says the U.S. won’t let them get away with blowing up merchant ships and laying mines in the water.
Rubio said that he thinks it’s best to keep these straits open like they were before.
