Scientists have confirmed that the Euphrates River is drying up fast, which is described in the Book of Revelation as a sign of the final battle between good and evil. Research data shows that between 2003 and 2009 the Tigris and Euphrates basins lost a volume of water equivalent to the Dead Sea, and by 2040 the river could dry up completely. It’s down to the climate crisis and not managing our resources well. Although ancient authors saw it as an apocalypse, modern science says it’s down to environmental factors that actually pose a real threat to the survival of millions of people in the region.
According to the Book of Revelation in the Bible, the final battle between good and evil will be preceded by a series of key events, including the drying up of the Euphrates River.
In fact, scientific research says the ancient river is drying up, according to Iflscience. It’s interesting that this important river, which was vital to the survival of ancient peoples, is mentioned loads in the Bible. It’s even associated with the Garden of Eden and the Book of Revelation.
The Euphrates in the Book of Revelation
In chapter 16 of the Book of Revelation, it’s a big deal in the last days of humanity. Angels start pouring out seven bowls of God’s wrath on the Earth, which is one of the final events before the final battle between Good and Evil. The sixth bowl is a nod to the Euphrates.
The sixth angel poured out God’s wrath on the great river Euphrates. The water dried up…’ is an excerpt from the chapter.
Scientists have found that 144 million cubic kilometres of fresh water were lost between 2003 and 2009 in the Tigris and Euphrates river basins, which include parts of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. This volume is roughly the same as the Dead Sea.
The situation hasn’t improved since then. A report by Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources found that the river could dry up by 2040 because of a combination of the climate crisis and inefficient water management.
The article said that while this is definitely “not good”, given that the region’s people depend on the river, it’s far from the end of the world. But when the Book of Revelation was written, people would have seen the river drying up as exactly that.
