The team behind the YouTube channel Edmunds organized a spectacular drag race to determine the ultimate winner on the straightaway: the high-tech Tesla Model S Plaid or the recognized kings of the road, the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki ZX-14R superbikes.
Riding a motorcycle has always been dangerous. Even more so when your opponent is the most powerful Tesla Model S in the Plaid modification. This was reported on the YouTube channel Edmunds.
Superbikes have always been the kings of the road, thanks to their low weight and high power-to-weight ratio. In the early 1970s, for example, the most powerful muscle cars and supercars could barely cover a quarter-mile (402 meters) in 13 seconds. The Kawasaki Z1, with its 900cc engine, could cover this distance in just 12.6 seconds.
Since then, technology has advanced significantly, and electric cars have emerged. Even a standard Tesla Model S can easily compete with most modern sports cars. The Edmunds YouTube channel published an entertaining video in which the Tesla Model S Plaid electric car competes against the Suzuki Hayabusa and the Kawasaki ZX-14R, the fastest production motorcycles on the market, in a drag race.
The Model S Plaid has three electric motors that generate a total of 1,020 horsepower. The electric car accelerates to 100 km/h in just two seconds. The Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle has a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with 188 horsepower. The Kawasaki ZX-14R superbike has a 1.4-liter engine with 208 horsepower. Additionally, motorcycles are significantly lighter than electric cars.
However, none of them could beat Tesla when starting from a standstill. However, there are options when racing from a running start. In any case, see for yourself.
