The Defender lineup is growing with a compact and more affordable model with the Sport prefix. The new SUV, which will be unveiled at the end of 2026, will be a direct competitor to the future “small Geländewagen” and will offer legendary off-road capabilities in an electric car format.
The Land Rover Defender is about to get a new member of the family. The compact Defender Sport will be available only in electric versions. The new Land Rover Defender Sport is set to be unveiled at the end of this year, with sales beginning in 2027, as reported by Auto Express.
The SUV will be the second model in the newly created Defender brand lineup, and its main competitor will be the younger brother of the Geländewagen. It’ll probably be more affordable than the standard Defender.

The Defender Sport has already been spotted in camo during testing, and a render of the model has been created based on spy photos. The compact SUV will look a lot like its older brother, the Land Rover Defender. It’s got a high hood, short body overhangs, and even side-opening tailgate doors. The Defender Sport will have big displays in the cabin.

It’s worth mentioning that the model will be available in two versions. The city version will have low-profile tires, while the off-road version will have off-road tires, plastic bodywork, and increased ground clearance.
The new Land Rover Defender Sport will be an electric vehicle; versions with internal combustion engines are not planned at this time. The SUV will be built on the new EMA electric platform, and it’ll be available in all-wheel-drive versions with batteries that have a capacity of about 70-90 kWh.
